We strive for inclusion, respect and safety for all UHN 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Reporting structure

The committee reports to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Anti Racism (IDEA). We provide input to UHN Leadership on issues related to the lives, perspectives, and experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Values

Our work is guided by the values of:

  • Diversity: To recognize the unique individuality and intersectionality of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, including staff, patients, and families at UHN.
  • Inclusion: To create a positive space in which the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities can safely voice their opinions, ideas, and interests.
  • Respect: To promote and foster respect for the voices, interests, and issues of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities that provide and use UHN services.
  • Education: To educate, train, and provide resources that support the voices, interests, and issues of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities at UHN.
  • Safety: To create a safe and positive space free from the fear of discrimination, reprimand, or violence for staff, patients, and families at UHN.

Purpose

To promote and foster respect for the voices, interests, and issues of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities that provide or use UHN services by networking and advocating for inclusion at UHN and in the community.

We challenge discrimination against 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

We support UHN’s ongoing efforts to create service, work, and learning environments that are accessible, inclusive, respectful, and welcoming by challenging discrimination against gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation.

We support all anti-oppression work at UHN

The UHN 2SLGBTQIA+ Committee affirms continued solidarity with UHN’s Indigenous Health Program, Accessibility Advisory CommitteeBlack Legacy Committee, and the Pan Asian Committee.

Mandate

Our mandate has 5 parts:

    1. To promote the interests and increase awareness and understanding of equity issues related to 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in UHN’s service, work and learning environments. This includes:
      • employees
      • health care providers
      • students
      • volunteers
      • researchers
      • interns
      • patients
      • families
      • visitors
      • suppliers
      • contractors
      • affiliates research institutes
      • UHN business partners

  1. To promote the voices of, and become a resource, reference and networking point for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities providing and receiving service at UHN.
  2. To ensure that UHN’s equity policies are informed by the life experiences of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
  3. To support UHN’s ongoing efforts to create welcoming, accessible, inclusive, safe, respectful service, work and learning environments that challenge discrimination including but not limited to homophobia and transphobia.
  4. To assist UHN in demonstrating its commitment to inclusion, diversity and equity through engagement and attendance at forums or events such as Pride.
