Welcome to the IDEAA 101 Workbook Series. The following workbooks were developed in response to the findings from the IDEAA Survey, and correspond to the Red Phase of the IDEAA Strategy.

Inclusion In The Workplace

Inclusion is the first of the 5 IDEAA dimensions. An Inclusive workplace is one where every employee, community member, and visitor feels a sense of belonging in the work environment. It is entering a room and knowing that you are safe from prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes.

Fostering Inclusion in the Red Phase includes

  1. Dismantling internal biases, prejudices and stereotypes about equity-seeking groups. This category requires a commitment to an environment that recognizes and values differences in identities, abilities, backgrounds, cultures, skills, experiences, and perspectives. 
  2. The action step for this phase will rely on self-directed learnings in the accompanying workbooks that encourage self-reflection, self-awareness, and reducing the harm caused by implicit biases. 

How long do I have to complete the action-steps? 

From February 2024 – May 2024, members of UHN are encouraged to complete all the workbooks on this page and track their completion on MyLearning by completing the post-workbook survey.

Diversity In The Workplace

Diversity is a measure of the different lived experiences present in the workplace. A diverse work environment welcomes the rich perspectives of equity-seeking communities and values their lived experiences alongside their professional qualifications.

Fostering Diversity in the Red Phase includes:

  • developing and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for members of equity-seeking groups. 
  • The action-steps for this score will rely on self-directed learnings in the accompanying workbook that encourage self-reflection, self-awareness, and respect for diverse racial, sexual and gender identities and accessibility.

Equity In The Workplace

Equity is assurance that every individual, regardless of lived experiences or identity, will receive a fair chance to achieve their goals, advance their career and produce their best work at UHN.

Fostering Equity in the Red Phase: 

  1. Integrating foundational knowledge about dismantling internal biases, prejudices, and stereotypes about equity-seeking groups by completing this accompanying workbook. This category requires a commitment to an environment that recognizes the difference between equity and equality and values differences in identities, abilities, backgrounds, cultures, skills, experiences, and perspectives.
  2. The action steps for this score will rely on self-directed learnings in this accompanying workbook that encourage self-reflection, self-awareness, and reducing harm caused by implicit biases.

Accessibility In The Workplace

Accessibility is the pursuit of designing spaces, education, opportunities and workflows with needs of all workers and learners in mind. 

Fostering Accessibility in the Red Phase includes:

  1. Refreshing knowledge of the Accessibility For Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and understanding ableism.
  2. The action steps for this category will focus on learning about the distinctions between accessibility, different types of disability, and accommodation in the work, learning, and service environments in the accompanying workbook.

Antiracism In The Workplace

Antiracism is a measure of differential treatment in the workplace based on the social construction of race. An Antiracist work environment acknowledges the impact of racism, addresses racist conduct including comments and corrects the restriction of opportunity based on race. 

Fostering Antiracism in the Red Phase includes: 

  1. Support in developing and maintaining an environment that promotes just and Antiracist practices for BIPoC. 
  2. The action steps for this category will focus on learning the dynamics of how racism operates at the interpersonal, institutional and systemic level by completing the accompanying workbook.
